Sell my home, my cars, the sofa, the lawnmower, clothing, shoes, and all that stuff in my garage? You\u2019ve got to be kidding!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stewardshipworks.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/homeSale.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-583\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stewardshipworks.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/homeSale.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.stewardshipworks.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/homeSale-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we, as wealthy Americans (and we are all wealthy as compared to the world population), read this Bible passage, how does it make us feel? Confused mostly, because it can\u2019t be possible for God to wish that we actually sell all that we have and, after it\u2019s all gone, still give more to the poor!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If we have \u201cstuff\u201d and money, are we doomed to the eternal fire because we disobeyed Jesus?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Look at the passage again, the rich young man asked Jesus how to inherit even more than he already had. In addition to his worldly goods, he also wanted to \u201cinherit\u201d (get without working for it) eternal life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus was teaching the young man a valuable lesson. Serve the Lord, not money. Comparing the concept of eternity, endless time, with the 70 &#8211; 90 years of earthly life, can put a few things into perspective. We also learn in 1 Timothy 6:17-19, that we can serve God and His people by means of our money so as to \u201cwin the life that is true life.\u201d Bottom line, material wealth should never become our god, nor should our greed prevent us from reaching out to the needy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A rich young man said to Jesus, \u201cWhat must I do to inherit eternal life?\u201d Jesus answered, \u201cSell all that you have and give to the poor.\u201d Mark 10:21 What?
